Dante adjusted his seat on the couch, taking the opportunity to stretch his legs forward. Dean had let him go early this afternoon and the endurance rider found himself currently haunting the hay loft at the stables before his lesson. Technically he hadn't been on the trainer's schedule, but fortunately they had been able to fit him in last minute when he had unexpectedly gotten a free afternoon. A water bottle he had procured from the refrigerator was clutched in one hand and he raised it to his lips to take a generous drink. The water was refreshingly cool as it slid down his throat and he sighed in content.

The stables were fairly quiet today, Dante having not seen much of any of the other boarders or students. Or perhaps that was intentional on his part. He was a bit antisocial and tended to avoid people in general, finding conversation to be difficult and overall unappealing. Small talk? No thank you. In fact, probably the only thing he might talk about were horses, but even then he preferred to keep his thoughts to himself and instead try to just listen to the other people around him. Or better yet, enjoy the silence of solitude.

Hence why he was currently in the loft. While the room, if one could call it a room, was furnished and well stocked with water and snacks, it was usually empty around this time of day. Until it wasn't. A pair of booted footsteps thumped on the stairs behind him. Dante shifted, fully intending on just sitting quietly and hoping they would leave. Maybe they would just get a drink and be on their way. Hopefully.

So far, Amelia had been adjusting to life in Breckenwood fairly well. She had been able to avoid most of the drama, for now knock-on-wood, between Sweetridge and Whittemore and for that she was grateful. Not that she was above such petty squabbles. If the opportunity presented itself, or if one of the snobs from Whittemore did mess with her stuff, she was more than capable of dishing it right back with interest. But she would be lying if she said she didn't also in some part appreciate the silence.

Today was like any other day at the stables. She'd arrived early to work Buzz before the temperatures got too high. Spring was in the air and with it the weird part of the year where the weather couldn't make up its mind if it wanted to be winter or summer. She had already made several jokes about the jacket in the morning and tank top in the afternoon situation to her coworkers, much to their annoyance. Maybe it was time to start teasing her fellow boarders at the stables instead? Or maybe not. Everyone here was friendly but she wasn't keen on pushing her luck either way. Oh well.

Returning her equipment to the tack room, Amelia made her way towards the loft in search of a water bottle and maybe a snack. It was now lunchtime and she was famished. Her muck boots thumped on the stairs as she ascended, an intentional alert in case anyone was up here getting to know each other. Once she'd walked in on two people making out on the couch and she hadn't waited to see what happened next. Now whenever she went to the loft, she made her presence well known just in case.

Luckily, she had nothing to worry about. The only other person was alone and all she saw of them was a mop of closely cropped dark hair. She didn't immediately recognise them, but they might have been new. Making her way to the fridge, she grabbed the water she had come for and located a bag of crisps before making her way to the couches. She plopped down in dramatic fashion and caught a glimpse of the other person's face. Definitely new. He was handsome in a rugged way. "Hi! Sorry if I interrupted you. I'm Amelia," she introduced herself.

Perfect...they were friendly. Dante sighed inwardly and resolved himself to a conversation. Just his luck that the intruder into the loft was in fact not going to just come up, get a drink or snack, and then return to the barn. He was running low on social spoons and really wasn't feeling up to talking to anyone. Especially a stranger but it was too late and would definitely be rude if he pretended not to have heard or remained silent. His eyes tracked the girl's movement as she made her way from the fridge to the couch and made herself comfortable.

Slowly, he leaned back into the plush upholstery of the sofa and tried to relax. "No problem. Dante," he replied, then paused. How was the rest of it supposed to go? He didn't really care to ask her any personal questions. Just wanted her to leave as soon as possible. Judging by the sparkle in her eye though, that was unlikely. He tried not to actual sigh audibly or look too bothered. Umm...topics. The weather? Social people talked about the weather. The season was mid-change but small talk was not his forte. Horses maybe. They were always a good go-to.

Well if he was going to be stuck here then he supposed he could at least try to be nice. Or his best impression of nice. Friendly. "So...are you a rider here? Or?" His voice was a bit gruff and his tone a bit more forced than he meant it but it was too late to take the words back. He would just have to hope for the best. It was going to be fine. Horses were a safe topic and probably the only thing he could actually talk about.
