POSITIVE Resourceful, cunning, resilient, charismatic
NEGATIVE Dishonest, possessive, hypocritical, unmotivated
LIKES Natural highs, chemical highs, fine dining, companionship
DISLIKES Commitment, routine, authority
QUIRKS/FUN FACTS Ean is extremely superstitious about cats. Most of them he does not trust, but under certain circumstances, they are considered lucky.
Killarney, Kerry, Ireland -- Born out of wedlock, Lachy never knew his father and two years after his birth, his biological mother put him up for adoption, having run out of resources. By that time, he was in poor health and his foster placement was delayed as he spent time in the pediatric ward recovering. When he was healthy enough to be placed, he went to a foster family that used him to collect government stipends until he turned five and the monthly allowance dropped. At that time, the church took him in as a ward of the boarding school.
During the summer months, he was fostered in respite care homes. Many families in this line of fostering ended up seeking to adopt the children staying with them, but not the families that Lachy stayed with. He was a trouble maker, mostly due to the ill-humor of a child that had never been taught better. He was destructive and disrespectful, slamming doors, fighting with other kids, picking on animals, and stomping in flower beds just for fun.
It wasn't until he was ten that a family showed interest in adopting him. The initial visits went better than expected and the paperwork was approved by the court. Lachy's new parents had taken countless hours of adoption education classes and it showed. His behavior started to improve as his tantrums were met with patience and understanding, time and time again. Trust was built and slowly he started to not only obey, but actually seek their praise.
That was all well and good, but Lachy wasn't the only child in the home. Brenden, fifteen, was a biological son and resented the amount of time and attention shown to Lachy. He tormented Lachy in the hours after school, before their parents got home from work. After months of progressively worse abuse, Lachy could no longer endure it and went to his parents.
They were shocked and doubtful of his story, having trouble believing Brenden could be capable of such things. They did their own investigation and to this day, Ean is not sure if they were actually looking for the truth or simply covering Brenden's tracks, but the next thing he knew, he was back at the boarding school, sent away in disgust, and blacklisted from future adoptions for lying about physical and sexual abuse.
He aged out at eighteen and was put on the streets with a meager parting sum, which barely lasted two weeks. Homeless and unemployed, the young man was faced with the choice of prostitution or theft to get by, ultimately choosing the latter.
One day he tried mugging the wrong person, thinking the short, slender man seemed like an easy target. What he didn't know was that the jockey was wiry and tough as nails under his windbreaker, perfectly accustomed to handling juiced up thoroughbreds on the daily.
After handing Ean his ass, Tadhg actually turned around and helped him up, seeing the need and offering to buy him a meal. Not only did he not press charges, he ended up getting Ean a job at the track mucking stalls and eventually taught him to ride.
Old habits die hard though and Ean was far from reformed, eventually fucking up badly enough that he decided to run off to the states to escape trouble.
