When one would look at Delilah, she didn't look like the typical girl you would find in the horse barns, mucking stalls or even riding horses. She grew up in a upper middle class home with a history professor father and a dance instructor mother. She was enrolled in ballet at a young age and contemporary dance classes. She was a studious girl who enjoyed books, especially the thick text books in her father's study that she could barely read until she was older. She is the middle three daughters. She was raised in upstate New York. Her family was close, but she did stand apart from her sisters. There was a bit of an age gap between them, especially her older sister and she, that they didn't really have much of a bond growing up.
Her first encounter with horses came when she was sent away to a summer camp. But the hobby didn't fully develop until she returned and began reading all the books she could get a hold of about horses. Her parents enrolled her and her younger sister into lessons after researching nearby stables. She learned a lot and spent several summers with the school horses. She eventually focused more on her studies and went to college to pursuit an English degree. She wanted to go into education like her father, but would later settle into the local library. She worked for a a couple years, before she had a chance meeting with a boy who worked for the stable where she used to take lessons.
The pair had trained together and became fast friends. Delilah would admit the boy would be her first crush, but neither pursued those feelings and remained friends. Though now years later, they had reconnected and he reintroduced her to the equestrian world. With his help, she purchased her first horse and boarded him at the stable. She started showing when she was twenty-seven, returning to her training in show jumping. She garnered some showing experience in between her current work. The pair began to date and were friendly rivals in the show ring. Along the way, she decided to get away from New York. She wanted to be able to evenly divide her riding and her regular work. She found Breckenwood and along came Whittemore Estates, where she boarded and continued her training. She found work in the library close to the stables and is able to combine both her passions.
